Mouldings production

Milling and kiln-dry

Since the beginning of Salvadori Cornici the two founders Salvadori Giuseppe and his wife Corazzin Natalina strongly believed to control the quality of their products starting from the raw material. This is the reason why they decided to have a milling department. With a bigger production building they included a drying-kiln oven because at that time it was hard to find a good dried wood for the moulding business.

The most common woods are finger-jointed spruce coming from North Italy, Pine from Scandinavia and Brazil. These woods are used to be covered with gesso and gilded on the top. A very good point to use finger-jointed woods are the regular lengths. On top of these woods, we also use treated Ayous. The strong points of this wood are: it is a light wood an availability in the market. This wood is treated in our facility against woodworms. Another two types of wood we use are lime and oak which have beautiful colours and they are mostly used raw around a picture. They come from East Europe and North America.

Processing

Drying and milling departments

Everything starts from the drying process of the wood and then the milling of the profiles. After each production step all the mouldings are checked in order to always have a perfect quality control.

Spraying department

An important aspect for us at Salvadori Cornici is to have a friendly environment for our co-workers. All departments follow all strict EU regulations for a healthy working area. Here at Salvadori most of the products we use water based products.
Plaster
This is a very meticulous process because it has to achieve a very smooth surface, even with 8  layers. At the same time, it has to have a very thin result in order not to chip once the moulding has been cut at 45°.
Spraying
The use of this spray painting system does not cover the pore of the wood, but allows the creation of particular coloring effects as well as shades.
Sanding
This process is used in order to reach a very smooth surface. Even the simplest matt black or white finish has to have a very smooth surface without imperfections.
Ornated mouldings
This machine or process has made a big step in the wood moulding production. This machine has replaced the traditional hand curving by using some curved “cylinders” which apply or emboss the design patterns into the moulding surface.

Machine gilding or Hot Stamping foils

In one machine we can find several rubber wheels which once heated transfer the foil onto the moulding surface. Once used only for cheap products thanks to today technology and by using several foil designs one on top of the other, this process can achieve finishes once considered impossible.

Handgilding and handfinishing

In this department you will find everything done by hand. Starting with the handgilding we can find two different types of gilding: oilgilding and watergilding.

The Oilgilding is the fastest method using a special water-based glue called “missione”. This old technique came to Europe thanks to the missionaries coming from China. This type of glue is applied on top of the moulding and it has to “rest” for some time in order for the water to evaporate. Then the metal leaf, gold or silver, 16x16cm is applied on top. It is the faster technique for handgilding. Because the gold and silver leafs are shiny, we apply shellac and then other products in order to protect and create a modern or classic look to the leaf.

Water gilding is an ancient technique and it came from Egypt. It is considered to be the “Queen of the gilding techniques”.  This method is completely different from the oil gilding starting from the material used to make the “gesso” and the products used to glue the leaf. The gesso is made of rabbit bone powder and “gesso Bologna”. It is called water gilding because the gold leaf has to “swim” in the liquid glue in order to stick to the surface of the moulding. The glue is made with a mix following a precise percentage of fish glue and water. In order to make the gilding shiny the surface is polished with a piece of Agata stone.

Production of artistic mouldings “Lab.Art”

Few years ago we created an artistic workshop in order to make some special hand made collections.

We called this laboratory “Lab.Art” and for us it is synonymous of creativity & poetry. Modern or classic styles, Lab.Art is what we believe add more passion and a more distinctive look to our entire moulding collection. Each single moulding is unique, but thanks to our professionalism a framer can always match two lengths of the same production. These collections will help a framer to build what we call the “boutique framing shop”.

Warehouse and Shipments

For many years we have been adding many moulding collections according to the interior design styles and demands. Today in our warehouse we can count more around 2000 items always available. We also produce special items with minimum quantity runs. On top of mouldings, we have been adding also many faming accessories according to the framers’ requests. In today world where investments and stock levels are the lowest ever our goal is to ensure quality and service to our customers.

Quality control
In every production step there is a quality control in order to ensure that only good quality goes forward. This reduces costs at every level. Then a final quality control is made before packing the mouldings. We use two types of products to wrap the mouldings: TNT, a kind of fabric or textile, for the more delicate finishes and a nylon for the more resistant one In order to prevent any damages during the transport, we do use a hard cardboard to protect the products.

Stock availability
All items included in our catalogue are available in our warehouse. It can happen that an item runs out faster than predicted therefore a new production will take about 3-4 weeks depending on the finish. The stock level per each single item is about 3 months of sale period. The article will be produced once the stock level reaches 1 month of sales. Minimum production is between 1000 and 2000 metres depending if the item is produced in single or in double.

Warehouse digital information
In order to have faster answers we use so called “radio technology”. Every single operator uses bar-code pistols in order to send faster information to the office. Using this technology will help us to be more precise in sending information such as right article and quantity.

Chop Service

Chop Service is what we think to be the right choice for a Gallery or a Framer in order to have many samples on the wall, but less stock. This is the best solution if you are limited with space or if you do not want to stock a specific moulding, but still you want to propose or offer it to your customers. Within few days you will receive 4 pieces cut at 45° ready to be assembled.

No stock, no wastage, no dust.

Accessories

We stock 3000 items shown in our accessory catalogue called “Service”. You can always find the needed tool in order to frame a picture.
We distribute the best known world-wide brands in our market which is a sign of quality and professionalism.

At the beginning were only original paintings produced inside its own buildings. Now Salvadori Arte still makes originals, but also prints images with a very high quality and under copyright from the artists.

On top of all this, Salvadori Arte produces trendy photoframes and mirrors always “Made in Italy”.
